Born and raised in rural West Bengal, India, Dr. Rupayan Kundu overcame immense odds to become the first physician from his village. After securing Rank #1 statewide among over 1 million students — earning prestigious Chief Minister and Governor awards and having a sports complex named in his honor — he earned his MBBS at Nilratan Sircar Medical College in the top 10% of his class.
His clinical journey spans top U.S. institutions, from postdoctoral research at Mayo Clinic to Internal Medicine residency at Cleveland Clinic Foundation, culminating in his incoming Hematology & Medical Oncology fellowship at the NCI-designated Moffitt Cancer Center.
Dr. Kundu’s research spans 23+ publications in leading journals including Blood, JCO Global Oncology, and Cancer Medicine. His work investigates 30-year global trends in early-onset GI cancers, high BMI-related cancer mortality across 204 nations, and determinants of clinical trial enrollment in hematologic malignancies.
Clinically, he focuses on acute leukemia, multiple myeloma, immune checkpoint inhibitor-induced toxicities, and early biomarker detection algorithms.
Believing deeply in giving back, Dr. Kundu founded the 1st Generation Doctors Forum and co-founded Swastho Socheton (rural health literacy). He has personally mentored 16+ medical students and international graduates to a 100% residency match success rate.
